For startup activists, Dallas Startup Week has certainly become one of the most anticipated annual event agendas. This event presents thousands of startups and investors to share with each other. The DSW19 featured speakers that included former Neiman Marcus CEO Karen Katz, tech billionaire and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, and renowned tech journalist Kara Swisher.
In the event, they reminded every entrepreneur to keep building their business, and protecting it from the uncertainty of economic conditions. But who would have thought, the economic situation worsened because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This pandemic attacks all sectors of people’s lives. Startups were also affected by the pandemic. Because health protocols are very strict, many events that involve crowds eventually have to be postponed or canceled.
In the United States, the CDC has issued rules for society to limit the number of people present at one event, to a maximum of 50 people. That certainly has an impact on this annual startup event. Therefore, DSW’s organizer decided to postpone the event to the third quarter of the year.
Things about Dallas Startup Week that You Might have Missed
1. Previously Held in Downtown Dallas
This annual event has been scheduled for April 26 to May 1, 2020. However, the schedule had to be revised due to a pandemic. Every year, this event is held in various places in downtown Dallas.
2. The organizer changes the schedule due to corona
Officially, the organizer of DSW has announced that the event will be rescheduled from 30 August to 4 September. This notification is sent directly by the organizer via email to the participants. They also explained that this step was taken because the safety of the participants was the first priority.
3. 2020 is the 6th year
DSW20 is the 6th event since the event was first held. Previous DSW series has helped many startups to develop. There have been many investments given to startup who joined DSW. That’s why DSW is one of the most awaited events by startup founders in the United States.
4. Free to register
If you think that attending a startup event should cost a lot of money, then you are wrong. DSW20 does not charge a penny from the participants. Through the Eventbrite site, you can register for free to take part in this prestigious annual event.
A startup founder will not miss this event. Because if lucky, then their startup could have met with investors who are willing to inject fresh funds.
5. Lasts for 6 days
As in previous years, this event will last for 6 days with a variety of events that say not to be missed. A startup founder can learn a lot from this event, and what’s even more fun is being able to expand his network.
6. Will be attended by 10,000 participants
Participants were claimed to have reached 10,000, including entrepreneurs, founders, startups, academia, corporate and social innovators, and community change-makers from North Texas. You can imagine how great this event is. No wonder so many startup founders want to be part of this event.
7. There are 100 event sessions
There will be 100 event sessions in 16 tracks to be held to give participants more opportunities. Their highlights events will also be held this year, including the Women of Innovation Summit. This event will also exhibit arts and entertainments to make it livelier.
8. Will be held in one location
If previously DSW was held in many locations, this year the organizers planned to concentrate the event at one location. It was intended that the participants could attend more events that were held.
Bill Chinn, CEO of The DEC, thinks that it’s one of the most important changes for 2020. He considers that by focusing on Gilley’s Dallas, participants will stay longer and be able to attend more events than in previous years.
9. Is an event initiated by The DEC
The DEC is the initiator of the DSW event. The Dallas Entrepreneur Center is a non-profit organization. They focus on supporting innovation and entrepreneurship especially in Dallas. The DEC specifically operates in Dallas, the United States of America to drive economic development in the region.
10. Supported by Capital One
The name Capital One must be familiar to many people. It is a very famous bank in the United States. This bank offers a variety of financial products to consumers. The bank has been a partner of The DEC for DSW event sponsors since 2019. Capital One said that they are very happy to be working with The DEC and are proud to be part of the event.
DSW Highlighted Events
There are three events that become the highlights of DSW. The Women of Innovation Summit is a DSW event held specifically to support women to continue working. In this event, women with enthusiasm and passion are supported to continue to develop ideas and ambitions, and make them come true.

Last but not least; Disrupt Dallas, an event to celebrate the champions that are disrupting the diversity pipeline, the entrepreneurial market, and landscape as well as providing expert education and programming for minority entrepreneurs.
Those are some interesting facts that you can know about DSW20. Even though the event had to be postponed until the situation improved, the enthusiasm of the community was still very high. Dallas Startup Week 2020 will be an annual event that is no less interesting than in previous years.
