OVO Can Be Used to Pay University’s Tuition Fees and Give Cashback

Competition between GoPay and OVO is getting tougher. If GoPay is used to pay off Education Development Donations or school fees, OVO can be used to pay tuition fees.

Yogyakarta State University (UNY) is working with e-channel Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN) to provide digital-based tuition payments. Tuition fees 2020/2021 can be paid through Tokopedia, with OVO and other payment methods.

“With a few clicks in the application, students can now complete payments quickly and easily,” UNY Rector Prof. Sutrisna Wibawa was quoted as saying from a press release, today (18/2). In fact, he joked that students could pay the Single Tuition Fee (UKT) while lying down.

In certain periods, students can also get a cashback discount. The promotion was provided by Tokopedia and OVO. “It depends if there is a promo,” he said.

That way, UNY still gets full payment. While students get subsidies from both startups for a certain period. “This can relieve students,” he said.

Bank BTN Yogyakarta Branch Manager Donnie Iskandar added, the company and Tokopedia also provide other payment options such as mobile banking, credit cards, Alfamart, and Indomaret. The funds will be managed by the campus through BTN.

Digital University Tuition Fee’s Payments are Very Easy to be Done

To pay tuition digitally, students only need to enter the Tokopedia application or website. Then choose the category of tuition fees and the name of the university. After that, the university logo will appear.

Then, the user only needs to enter the student ID number. Tokopedia will display the amount to be paid along with the choice of payment method. Then, the user enters a PIN so that the balance is automatically deducted from OVO.

In November 2018, OVO collaborated with Widya Mandala Catholic University (UNIKA) in Surabaya. OVO services can be used to buy books or lecture modules, transact in canteens, cooperatives, or student fairs, up to graduation payments.

Early last year, OVO also collaborated with the Trisakti School of Tourism (STP), Jakarta to provide payment services in the canteen area. While GoPay can be used to pay for books, uniforms to extracurricular activities.

Payments are made through the GoBills feature in the Gojek application. Around 180 educational institutions such as pesantren, madrasas, schools, and courses in Indonesia have been registered with GoBills.

Gobills Feature in Gojek App Has Already been Used to Pay for School Needs

GoPay can be used to pay for books, uniforms and extracurricular activities. Payments are made through the GoBills feature in the Gojek application. Around 180 educational institutions such as pesantren, madrasa, schools and courses in Indonesia have been registered with GoBills.

The expansion of such services is Gojek’s effort to increase user loyalty. “This new service frees parents and guardians of students to pay for children’s education anywhere and anytime, without having to attend school,” GoPay Senior Vice President Sales Arno Tse said in a press release, today (17/2).

Since its launch in 2017, GoBills can be used to pay various types of bills such as education, water, electricity, credit, health BPJS, internet, cable TV, insurance, taxes to zakat. Payment can use GoPay.

Arno claims the service makes it easier for educational institutions to record transactions. A list of schools that accept GoPay payments can be seen in the GoBills feature. Some of them are Al Azhar, Al Irsyad, BKB Nurul Fikri, LP3i, and An Nuqthah Islamic Boarding School.

In addition to SPP, GoPay can already be used for payments at the canteens of several educational institutions. The financial technology (fintech) payment company made by Gojek collaborated with 50 vocational high schools in North Jakarta at the beginning of last year.
