Storial, a digital publishing startup, managed to triple the increase in users during the Covid-19 pandemic. The company recorded the highest increase in data obtained during March-May from various regions throughout Indonesia. This increase in traffic occurred by 350 percent compared to the previous period.
“The quarantine period is a difficult thing, especially facing the challenge of self-actualization that is limited to social distancing. At the same time, we also have more time to explore and adopt the technology. This situation causes many people to use it more than just a platform to read stories,” Storial CEO Steve Wirawan said in his press release, Tuesday (2/6/2020).
Storial also recorded a longer reader duration in accessing stories, this data increased by three times more, with an average of 60 chapters read per week.
The Purchase of Storial Coins for Premium Chapter Access had Increases
The company also noted the purchase of more Storial coins to access premium chapters consisting of stories from authors who are members of the premium writer category.
“As social creatures, everyone wants to be connected, including through online reading which is a new habit in this country. Because of the increased online reading habits, we have also recorded the purchase of more Storial coins to access premium chapters,” he said.
According to him, the stories of writers who are members of premium writers, namely writers who have been well-curated by the editorial team and have written a minimum of 10 chapters with at least 2,000 views have the potential to earn royalties from his work after his writing was reviewed by the Storial editorial team.
“From writing stories at the Storial, some of our writers get royalties up to five times that of the UMR in their city per month,” Steve added.
The Author Can Get Royalty Value
Furthermore, Steve said, the author can monetize each chapter of his writing with a transparent calculation of royalties. This is what also gives hope to the writer to be valued financially. Many of the great writers and influencers joined the Storial to diversify their sources of income, especially during this time of uncertainty.
“By sharing stories at the Storial, we facilitate writers to be able to offer their work to readers from Sabang to Merauke. We also observe the high potential of local writers in various cities who have succeeded in writing their best stories so they can be accessed by thousands of readers at the Storial,” he said.
Therefore, Steve believes that Storial can be a platform that plays a role in bridging the work of local writers to be enjoyed by more readers.
About Storial that People Needs to Know
Founded in 2016, Steve Wirawan admitted that Storial allows anyone to become a writer and upload his work digitally and can be widely shared with readers. Through this application that is a new way of telling stories, the writer can get royalties.
“We want Indonesian writers to come forward to work and make money from their writings,” said one of the Storial.co Co-Founders to Bisnis.
Storials are said to appear to accommodate the creations of millennials who previously liked to write “status” on social media. Sure enough, the public interest in the need for self-actualization is very high at the Storial until now 15,000 writers become members in this application. Moreover, the author can interact directly with readers in this application.
Steve said, writing in this platform is not limited by time. The author can upload his writings per Chapter following the speed of writing each. Storial, he said, also actively holds workshops every weekend that can be followed by writers and communities in big cities in Indonesia. Some classes teach productive tips in writing.
